Super Bowl Preview Picks and Best Bets

We are finally at the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs will once again travel to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers. Tampa is the first team in NFL history to host the Super Bowl. It’s quite ironic that after playing three straight road playoff games Tampa ends the season in the biggest game at home. Let’s dive into the keys for the game and to our Super Bowl winner!

Keys for the Chiefs

The last time these two teams faced was in Week 12, and the Chiefs came out with a close win after a strong fourth quarter from the Bucs. The Chiefs had controlled that entire game till that final quarter. A big reason why the Chiefs were handling the Bucs was that Tampa had no answer for Tyreek Hill. Hill destroyed them for nearly 200 yards in the first quarter. Tyreek Hill finished that game with 13 catches, 269 yards, and three touchdowns. Travis Kelce also turned in a respectable outing with eight catches for 82 yards.

The Chiefs will exploit the Tampa Bay secondary once again in their rematch, but Tampa should be ready. The other difference I see in this game is that the Kansas City offensive line is in trouble. They had two offensive lineman opt-out due to covid this season and lost three other starters throughout the season. The Chiefs offensive line will have a tall task in protecting Patrick Mahomes against Tampa’s ferocious pass rush. We saw Mahomes get knocked out of the Divisional Round Playoff game due to injury, so this is a huge concern.

Tampa harassed Aaron Rodgers all afternoon in the NFC championship, and I see them employing a similar strategy in the Super Bowl. Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre Paul will be screaming off the edge all night long. Will Mahomes have enough time to get the ball to Tyreek Hill? Travis Kelce will have to deal with Devin White and potentially rookie sensation Antione Winfield Jr. if he is healthy enough to go. As the old cliche goes, this game will be won and lost in the trenches.
