League Leading Point Generation
While the Edmonton Oilers have struggled as a team, their dynamic duo of Connor McDavid & Leon Draisaitl still sits atop the statistical leaderboards, both on the team and league-wide. The Oilers have McDavid and Draisaitl to fill the seats while the defensive end tries to figure out how to help the Oilers win.
McDavid and Draisaitl aren’t just leading the Oilers in points; they are pacing the league in both goals and assists. Connor McDavid leads the league in points (14 points), while Draisaitl is right behind him at two in the NHL with 13 points. Draisaitl is leading the NHL in a tie with six goals, McDavid is right behind him with five. McDavid is in a three-way tie for third place in assists (9), while Draisaitl is not far behind with seven assists. McDavid and Draisaitl lead their team as well.
Who Will Score More Points?
Connor McDavid is electric, don’t get me wrong, but Draisaitl is more consistent (game-to-game) for the Edmonton Oilers. When I was browsing through McDavid’s game logs for this season, he is either off or on, and it’s either goals or assists, not both. Draisaitl started a tad slow but has ramped up his production giving two points in each of the last three games.
One other thing to keep in mind, McDavid is facing the top defensive lines at full strength. When teams are game-planning for the Oilers, McDavid must be the first thing out of the coaches’ mouths. But Draisaitl is in the line right behind McDavid, so when the second line comes onto the ice for the opposing teams, they face a first-line forward grouping. Any line including Draisaitl outside of Edmonton would be the first line. Give me Leon Draisaitl to have more points than Connor McDavid at the end of 2021!
