NBA Best Bets: 1/16/21
I was quite furious yesterday when I saw the NBA canceled the Memphis and Minnesota game. The rage was short-lived after I heard Karl-Anthony Town’s tested positive with Covid; my heart breaks for that man and his family. Despite the cancellation, my fairy godmothers at Betonline.ag still cashed my parlay after the Mavericks covered +7. We’re back to the well today as our NBA Best Bets have been nothing but profit this week; let’s Take it to the Hizzy!
Charlotte Hornets vs. Toronto Raptors
The Hornets and Raptors will wrap up their back to back series in Tampa, Fl tonight. The last matchup was two days ago, and the Raptors won 111-108. The Hornets would easily cover +10 in that game despite missing Gordon Hayward; he is, however, a game-time decision for today’s game. In response, Betonline.ag is offering the Hornets at +7, and I’m all over it!
The Hornets have been quite profitable recently, as they are 5-1 ATS and 4-2 SU in their last six games. On the other hand, the Raptors are 3-8 on the season and have the same record ATS. I think there are good odds that the Hornets win this game SU, they’re +230 on the ML and -107 to cover the spread. The plus option is enticing, but I’ll stay with the trends and hammer the seven points with Charlotte. Toronto is also 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games; I love the value here!
I also like the total in this game, as it currently stands at 219.5. I’ll be taking the over; these two teams hit 219 in their last matchup, the half-point adjustment shouldn’t scare you. The total in their previous game was 218; they barely beat the number, but the Hornets were without Hayward, and I expect the number to climb if he is confirmed to play.
The total has gone over in six of Charlotte’s last nine games on the road, and four out of five of their previous road games against the Raptors. Despite Toronto’s negative play this season, they have been cashing the overs and playing with pace. They’ve hit the over in five of their last seven games.
Best Bet: Charlotte +7 / Second Favorite: Over 219.5
Atlanta Hawks vs. Portland Trailblazers
In recent history, the Atlanta Hawks have not played well against the Trailblazers. They are 1-4 ATS and SU in their last five matchups against Portland. I’ll be taking the Trailblazers to cover -5 in this game despite the fact they are only 5-7 ATS this season. Atlanta is also playing back to back road games; they lost last night to the Jazz 116-92.
The Hawks are an exciting team to watch with Trae Young at the helm, but this club does not get it done as a unit. They are 1-5 ATS and SU in their last six games; remember, good teams win, but great teams cover. Their last win was against a hobbled 76ers team that only dressed nine players. Before that win, they had dropped four straight games. The Trailblazers are 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games, but they’ve hosted far better talent at home this season.
I also like the Under in this game. The total is 234.5 points, and I firmly believe the Atlanta Hawks will not play their role for the game to hit the over. Atlanta has failed to hit the over in seven of their last seven games. These teams also have a track record of not hitting the over. The total has gone Under in eight of Portland’s last eleven home games against the Hawks, and they’ve gone under in four of their previous six games. If you dig deep, you’ll see that the over has only hit six times the last 20 times these teams have played each other. I’m all over these trends and will be hammering the Trailblazers to cover -5; win the game, and go under 234.5.
