NBA Advanced Stats and Notes

Stephen Curry

At this point, most teams have come close to finishing their first ten games of the season. We only get 72 games this year, so it’s an excellent time to start taking note of NBA Advanced Stats. There are also a few buy low and sell high candidates listed throughout. Be sure to let us know whose production was most surprising thus far.

Player Efficiency Rating – PER

“A measure of per-minute production standardized such that the league average is 15.”
  1. Nikola Jokic (29.6)
  2. Giannis Antetokounmpo (27.7)
  3. Stephen Curry (27.3)
  4. Joel Embid (27.2)
  5. James Harden (27.2)
  6. Nikola Vucevic (27.2)
  7. Kyrie Irving (26.9)
  8. CJ McCollum (26.6)
  9. Enes Kanter (26.3)
  10. Bradley Beal (26.1)

“The PER sums up all a player’s positive accomplishments, subtracts the negative accomplishments, and returns a per-minute rating of a player’s performance.”

I would sell high on Kanter in fantasy basketball if possible; you can swap him for a shooting category player if needed. I like him but you can always find 10 points/10 rebound players throughout the year; he’s only playing 19 minutes per game.

There are a few pleasant surprises in players like McCollum and Vucevic. I’m confident they won’t last the whole season in the top ten of this category. Expect Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis to sneak into this space soon; they currently rank 14th and 16th. I was shocked not to see Jayson Tatum here, too; he ranks 23rd.

True Shooting Percentage – TS%

“A measure of shooting efficiency that takes into account 2-point field goals, 3-pt field goals, and free throws.
  1. Seth Curry (.796)
  2. Jarrett Allen (.733)
  3. Richaun Holmes (.722)
  4. Thomas Bryant (.704)
  5. Patty Mills (.702)
  6. Bam Adebayo (.693)
  7. Enes Kanter (.693)
  8. Michael Porter Jr. (.690) – 4 Games
  9. Khris Middleton (.689)
  10. Tyrese Haliburton (.683)
  11. Paul George (.680)

Jarrett Allen has been a pleasant surprise in fantasy! His shooting numbers benefit from the extra ball movement, and speed Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant bring to the lineup.

It’s a shame that Seth Curry tested positive with the coronavirus. He was off to a great start and I certainly hope he gets healthy soon. Curry was averaging a career high 17+ points per game through the first eight games. Doc Rivers will set him up for success upon returning; he’s a buy-low candidate with his given current status. It could be risky, though; we don’t know the severity of his symptoms.

Keep firing up Patty Mills, Khris Middleton, and Tyrese Haliburton in DFS. These guys are shooting the lights out, and platforms like Fandeul and Draftkings have yet to adjust their values.
