Tuesday’s Ten Thoughts From Week 1 is the first in our new weekly article series. We will recap the previous week and look at the ten biggest takeaways.
Chiefs Kick Off Season with a Big Win
I. Our first of the Tuesday ten thoughts will begin with the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs, who are ready to start their quest in defending their title. They kicked off the season with a convincing victory over the Houston Texans. As expected, Patrick Mahomes looked like the best QB in the NFL. The Chiefs unleashed rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to the tune of 138 yards on 25 carries. Edwards-Helaire is currently the leading rusher in the NFL after Week 1. Having an electric running back in that offense has to be terrifying for the NFL.
New Kings In NFC West
II. The Arizona Cardinals appear to be a real threat. They upset the defending NFC champions San Francisco 49ers on the road. Kyler Murray led the offense to a pair of 4th quarter touchdowns, adding an impressive 91 yards rushing as well. New wideout DeAndre Hopkins snagged 14 catches for over 150 yards in his debut. This team will be a fun one to watch!
III. 49ers are showing early signs of the Super Bowl Hangover. The complete receiving corps was already depleted being without Deebo Samuel and having others injured. Now, superstar Tight End George Kittle took a nasty hit during the game and is battling a knee sprain. The 49ers running game is still solid, but it’s only a matter of time before the defense forces Jimmy Garropolo to beat them, and without these critical weapons, that will not happen.
