Anthony Miller Sleeper Wide Receiver

The Chicago Bears selected Anthony Miller in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. They had to trade their second-round pick in 2019 to jump up to get Miller. The only time you would do something like that is if you have the genuine conviction that a player will be an asset to your team.

Improvement From Anthony Miller In Sophomore Season

Anthony Miller showed a lot of promise in his rookie year when he led the team in touchdowns with seven. His targets, receptions, and yards all increased in his sophomore campaign, but unfortunately, his touchdowns regressed to two. The drop in touchdowns can be attributed to the fact that starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky played with a shoulder injury for most of the year and was very ineffective.

Miller has battled shoulder injuries in his first two years in NFL but didn’t miss a game in 2019. When given the opportunity, Miller has shown to be a real playmaker when he gets the ball in his hands. When someone watches the Bears offense film, it’s aggravating to see how often Miller beats his man, but Trubisky can’t hit him.

Whether it be Mitch Trubisky or Nick Foles, I think the quarterback play will improve in 2020 and lead to more opportunities for Miller. If Miller had average quarterback play in 2019, he’d be someone we would all be discussing as a breakout candidate, instead of a sleeper.

Final Take

Allen Robinson is one of the best receivers in the NFL and continues to produce even though he doesn’t have much help around him. I think Miller will take another step this year and flirt with 1,000 yards and give Robinson that help. Miller finished last season on a strong note; from Week 11 to 15, he amassed 33 catches, 431 yards, and 2 touchdowns. The Bears won three of those five games. Miller had two games of 100 receiving yards during that stretch and both were big wins for the Bears.

We have Miller ranked as WR44 and someone you can probably grab after round 10 in most leagues. The Bears offense was perhaps the worst in the NFL last year, and they can only go up (at least I hope!). The Bears will have improved quarterback play, whether that be Trubisky or Foles and Anthony Miller will be the biggest beneficiary.

The hot streak Miller finished on is a glimpse of his true potential. He is someone who will give you a solid return on investment. I see him being a solid flex player throughout 2020 with potential WR2 upside.
