Lamar Jackson: Trust Or Bust?

Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson set the NFL world on fire in 2019 on his way to winning the NFL MVP. He rewrote the record books and became the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for 3000 yards and rush for over 1000 yards. Jackson shattered Michael Vick’s quarterback rushing record with his 1200 rushing yards. Jackson was also sensational through the air tossing over 36 touchdowns to only six interceptions. Maybe the most impressive of all? He did all of this in only 15 games sitting out the final game of the regular season.

We all have to wonder how Jackson will follow up on his sensational sophomore season. It’s natural to assume that there will be some regression compared to what Lamar Jackson did last year. Jackson’s year was unprecedented. Now, just because I think Lamar Jackson’s numbers will regress a little bit, doesn’t mean that he will not be a successful fantasy player. For example, we could assume that Jackson’s rushing yards will reduce by over 30%. Even then, he will still have nearly 900 yards rushing. I think he will also pass for more yardage than he did last year. I expect his touchdown number to be closer to the high 20’s rather than the mid-’30s.

I think Jackson is someone you can still trust to be a top-three quarterback in Fantasy this year. The dual-threat ability he has rushing the football hasn’t been seen since the days of Michael Vick. He’s a real threat to rush for 100 yards in any game. The Ravens also added rookie running back J.K. Dobbins in the NFL draft to add another playmaker to the Ravens offense. They also drafted two wide receivers in the draft to give Jackson more weapons. I also expect second-year wideout Hollywood Brown to have a significant impact in 2020.

Lamar Jackson Has More to Prove

Jackson is also entering his third season in Greg Roman’s offense, and I think he will continue to progress and improve on reading defenses, becoming a better passer. Even though Jackson is the reigning NFL MVP, I know he has a big chip on his shoulder for how the Ravens were trounced in the playoffs. Jackson will be back with a point to prove and will continue to terrorize NFL defenses. The Ravens design their offense around Lamar Jackson running so I can easily see him flirting with 1000 yards rushing and throwing for 3,000 yards or more again.

Lamar Jackson gives you the production of a running back and a quarterback production in one player. He should be one of the first three quarterbacks off the board in your fantasy drafts. Expect him to finish in the top three quarterbacks for Fantasy this season. My prediction, big Trust in Lamar Jackson.

Prediction: Trust

  1. 100% agree with you -He will regress but he does have more to prove. My question is: will he be as good as his draft capital is right now? I’ve seen him go mid to late second round pick in some mocks .

Darius Slayton or Sterling Shepard?

Darius Slayton burst onto the New York scene in the absence of Sterling Shepard. He did have a 50 yard, two-touchdown game right as Shepard went down, but Slayton exploded for 15 targets, 10 receptions, 121 yards, and 2 touchdowns in a loss against the Jets in Week 10. Even […]
